Sophia CC
Matthew Carter’s design of Sophia CC, a titling face, was suggested by hybrid alphabets from sixth-century Constantinople — a Byzantine blend of cosmopolitan influences: classical Roman capitals, early uncials, and Greek letterforms. Carter & Cone’s Sophia CC contains several alternate character shapes. Some of these include extended strokes designed to create visual rhythm and fuse together with neighboring letters to compose on-the-fly ligatures.
